The United Methodist Church has had a long-standing and active engagement in global health efforts for many decades. Global Ministries as the mission agency of the UMC partners with health ministries within and outside the UMC network to provide abundant health for all. This work is led by the Global Health Unit (GHU). Global Health aims to ensure the highest attainable standard of health for all by ensuring that every newborn, mother and child not only survives, but thrives to transform the future. The Health Systems Strengthening (HSS) program seeks to improve the quality of health services and increase access to mission hospitals in low resource settings. To achieve this, the program uses the framework of the World Health Organization six health system strengthening building blocks to identify priority actions for health system strengthening support. The Global Health Unit seeks a PHC specialist to work on accelerating progress towards universal coverage of safe and quality health services at the primary health care level

Roles and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Health Systems Program Manager, and guidance of the Executive Director, Global Health the incumbent will perform the following tasks:

· Provide technical support to partners in health sector analysis, coordination and development of policies, strategies and plans for strengthening PHC services

· Assist partners to develop and manage a competent health workforce that can deliver integrated people-centered service.

· Support partners in the delivery of priority health interventions and strengthening of governance at the PHC level

· Provide technical support to partners in designing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating health system strengthening interventions funded through GH

· Manage the primary health care grants application from partners

· Coordinate with other GHU programs that support health systems strengthening initiatives and mother and child health

· Perform any other relevant duties assigned from time to time by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications

Education

Advanced university degree (Masters level degree or above) in public health, health policy, planning and management from a recognized university.

Experience

Minimum of three years' relevant work experience in health with a minimum of three years' international experience in the field of equitable, health people-centered health services management and/or experience working with the global health initiatives and other partner agencies.

Skills

· Knowledge of primary health care, health systems in resource-limited environments and health systems strengthening frameworks

· Program development, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.

Use of Language Skills

Expert knowledge of written and spoken English. French will be an advantage

United States of America: Spring 2019 EarthKeepers Network Internship

Basic Purpose:

Strengthen the Global Ministries EarthKeepers Network

Job Description:

Global Ministries EarthKeepers is a training program for United Methodists to develop Creation Care projects in their communities. There are currently 87 EarthKeepers in the network, with 50-75 being added each year. As the network grows, we need a strong system for connecting EarthKeepers through regional cohorts and affinity groups, tracking news of their accomplishments, and enhancing communication between EarthKeepers.

This intern will:

  1. assess the current tools being used to connect EarthKeepers;

  2. develop a plan for connecting EarthKeepers via affinity groups;

  3. develop a system for encouraging and tracking regional cohort and affinity group meetings;

  4. develop a system for requesting, receiving and organizing success stories;

  5. develop a system for onboarding new EarthKeepers into cohort and affinity groups;

  6. develop a system for sharing news among EarthKeepers that is accessible to those who do not wish to use mainstream social media channels.

Qualifications

  • Three months to 1 years’ experience in a similar capacity.

  • Some understanding of the non-profit work environment and the concepts of Creation Care.

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

  • An affinity to work in a diverse environment.

  • Strong work ethic.

  • Comfortable working in a faith-based organization

  • Must be authorized to work in the US for the duration of the internship period.
